The Marietta College Department of Biology and Environmental Science invites applications for a tenure track position to teach Microbiology and advanced eukaryotic Cell Biology as well as other courses of interest to the candidate and the department, such as Immunology or Environmental Microbiology. We are seeking candidates with a strong commitment to excellence in teaching in the spirit of a broad liberal arts education and a collegial work environment. Teaching responsibilities: four undergraduate courses (12 contact hours) per semester including introductory level biology courses.
Required Experience & Education:
- Education requirements include a Ph.D. in biology with knowledge of fields to be taught. Previous teaching experience is preferred.
- Experience in or demonstrated commitment to service at the department, college, and professional level.
- Experience in or demonstrated commitment to contribute to a collegial and collaborative work environment and to partner broadly across campus to serve the educational needs of our students.
Required Skills and Abilities:
- Demonstrated commitment to effective teaching at the college level. This may be evidenced by a clearly stated teaching philosophy, engagement in pedagogical training and development opportunities, or strong teaching evaluations.
- Demonstrated commitment to mentoring undergraduate students, including first generation and underrepresented college students, e.g., involving undergraduates in faculty-directed research and/or mentoring undergraduate students on independent research.
- Evidence of a program of high-quality research suitable for a small liberal arts institution.
- Commitment to the mission and values of the department and college including a shared commitment to diversity, inclusion, and belonging.
