Job Summary

Troy University is seeking an enthusiastic, innovative, outstanding Music Theory/Composition professional to join the John M. Long School of Music faculty. The Troy University is a public, doctoral-granting, Carnegie-classified research university with an enrollment of more than 14,000 students. The Music Education and Music Industry programs in the School of Music are well-established and respected at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. The successful candidate will have a strong background in music theory/composition with a documented record of teaching excellence and significant experience in commercial music.

Responsibilities:

Teach core undergraduate courses including Music Theory (classical and contemporary) and orchestration and arranging; teach undergraduate/graduate courses in music industry including Film Scoring, Composition, Songwriting, and/or other courses as determined by the needs of the school and candidate expertise; assist in curriculum development; contribute to undergraduate and graduate recruiting and retention; maintain an active regional/national professional presence and creative activity profile consistent with the expectations of tenure and promotion; participate in shared governance through service to the School, College, and University.

The start date for the position is August 1, 2026. Review of applications will begin immediately and will continue until the position is filled.Minimum Qualifications

1.Doctorate in Music Theory/Composition or terminal degree in related music field (completed or in progress). Note: Completed doctorate/terminal degree will be required prior to appointment.Preferred Qualifications

1. Documented university teaching experience and record of publication/creative activity.

2. Strong communication and interpersonal skills including the ability to interact with others with respect, empathy, and cultural humility.

3. Engagement in scholarly/creative activities leading to national visibility and contributing to a university vision of internationalization and interdisciplinary collaboration.

4. Demonstrated ability and interest in working in a collegial and mutually supportive environment.Will this position require driving (personal vehicle, university vehicle, utility vehicle, or golf cart) in order to perform the job duties?
