Position Details
Duties Performed in the Usual Course of the Job
The Department of Public Health is seeking one Public Health tenured-track faculty. Chosen faculty member will participate in undergraduate and graduate aspects in the degree programs of Public Health, Health Sciences, and/or Bilingual Health Care Studies as assigned. They will maintain excellence in teaching, scholarship, and service to the department and university. Candidate preference is for education preparation and career experience in the above-listed disciplines.
This position enhances the professional attributes of students; recruits, mentors, and advises students in both the classroom and practical environments. Fosters relationships with health providers and organizations. Collaborates with community partners to increase student engagement, internships, scholarships, and resources. Works as a member of a team to support all aspects of the department; and assists in maintaining and ensuring compliance with university assessment and program accreditation requirements.
The selected faculty will perform other duties as requested or assigned by the administration. Teaching expertise in both face-to-face and distance-based instructional formats is preferred. Ability to teach across multiple core public health areas including epidemiology and/or biostatistics is preferred. The appointment will require a 3/3 teaching load, and an on-campus presence during the week. Experience with accreditation support and program reviews may receive preferential consideration. One year teaching undergraduate and / or graduate students in institutions of higher education in one or more of the program areas listed above is preferred.
Educational Requirements for the Position
Earned Doctorate from an accredited university in the U.S. in a related area of Public Health, Health Sciences, Bilingual Health Care Studies, or Statistics (with Research Experience in Public Health) is required. Qualified ABD candidates will be considered with the required doctoral degree earned by the start date (9/1/2026).
Experience Required for the Position
Professional experience in one of the above listed program areas is preferred; voluntary experience in these areas will be considered. Research experience in the fields of epidemiology or biostatistics will receive preferential consideration.
Other Requirements for the Position
Maintain excellence in teaching, scholarship, and service to the department and university; and other duties as requested or assigned by the administration.

The city of Huntsville is nestled in the East Texas Piney Woods and is centrally located on a direct route between Houston and Dallas. With a population of roughly 48,550 (excluding SHSU ), Huntsville offers the simplicity of small-town life and easy access to surrounding larger cities including Conroe (where the College of Osteopathic Medicine and future Health Professions Building are located), The Woodlands (where the School of Nursing and The Woodlands Center is located), and Bryan/College Station. The Texas Medical Center, located in Houston, is the largest medical center in the world and is a 75- mile drive from Huntsville.
Huntsville is full of Texas history and charm, and this county seat is home to multiple museums, annual festivities, antique stores, year-round outdoor activities, vineyards, golf courses, lakes, and a beautiful state park. In a little over an hour after leaving main campus, you can arrive in downtown Houston. It provides access to large entertainment venues and professional sporting events. If you prefer life on the water, Lake Conroe and Lake Livingston are a short commute, and Galveston Island and the Gulf coast are a two-hour drive. A quick 35-minute drive down I-45 South takes you to The Woodlands which offers 220 miles of hike and bike trails,150 parks to enjoy, and easy access to numerous shopping, sport, and dinning venues.
