JOB SUMMARY:

The Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders in the Ruth S. Ammon College of Education and Health Sciences is currently seeking multiple tenure-track Assistant Professors to teach undergraduate, graduate and/or doctoral courses, direct theses, and engage in service-related activities in both our ASHA accredited Doctor in Audiology and Master’s in Speech-Language Pathology programs. Teaching assignments are dependent on departmental needs and faculty expertise.

The Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders offers a vibrant and diverse clinical and research environment in which academic and clinical faculty are dedicated to providing students with the highest level of professional training in the classroom and within its own Hy Weinberg Center for Communication Disorders, as well as in the New York metropolitan community. The Department offers degrees at the bachelors, masters, and doctoral levels. The Audiology program is a member of the New York Doctor of Audiology Consortium along with St John’s and Hofstra Universities. RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Teach graduate courses in speech-language pathology or audiology with opportunities to teach undergraduate and doctoral coursework according to departmental needs.
  2. Academic advisement of undergraduate and graduate students.
  3. Help promote a research culture in the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders by maintaining an active research agenda.
  4. Active participation in school, college, and university committees.
  5. Opportunities for clinical supervision of students in the Hy Weinberg Center for Communication Disorders.
  6. Opportunities to mentor PhD student research projects and dissertations.
  7. Work with and communicate effectively with administrators, faculty, staff and students from diverse ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Earned doctorate (Ph.D/Ed.D) in speech-language pathology or audiology or closely-related field of discipline from an accredited institution is required. Applicants nearing completion of the doctorate (ABD) may be considered, but the doctorate must be awarded before hire.
  2. Evidence of prior teaching experience in higher education.
  3. Evidence of potential for scholarship in a focused area of research, including publications in scholarly, peer-reviewed journals.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. For candidates in speech-language pathology, expertise focusing on any one or more of the following areas: dysphagia, fluency, autism spectrum disorders, childhood speech disorders, school-aged language disorders. For candidates in audiology, expertise in one or more of the following areas: psychoacoustics, genetics, aural rehabilitation, counseling, hearing science.
  2. A Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC) from the American Speech- Language Hearing Association (ASHA) and eligibility for New York State licensure is preferred.

SALARY INFORMATION:

In compliance with New York’s Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is $80,000 – $85,000. Adelphi University considers factors such as departmental budgets, scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate’s work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer. The above hiring range represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. An annual base salary higher than the range may be warranted in circumstances where a candidate has demonstrable equivalent prior higher education experience at another University.
