This is a term position; length of the term will be discussed during the interview process. Continuation past the term length discussed will be based on university need, performance, and/or availability of funding.POSITION SPECIFICS
The Pennsylvania State University Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS) Research Laboratory is conducting research in UAS guidance, navigation, and control. The team places particular emphasis on fault-tolerant flight control, vision-based navigation/guidance, acoustics, and innovative new vehicle configurations. This position seeks candidates who can effectively mentor and guide graduate student researchers in the performance of research and developing publications. In addition, the candidate will assist in the management of multiple ongoing research projects, including meeting with sponsors and reporting. The candidate will develop software and hardware systems to support unmanned aircraft research experiments across these multiple projects, and guide graduate students and other researchers in their implementation and use for research. They will also assist in the performance of flight test operations, including having or obtaining FAA Part 107 certification to allow them to be responsible for such tests. They must also contribute to these ongoing research programs with creative problem solving, documentation of results, rigorous configuration management of hardware and software associated, and support of a safety culture.
The successful applicant should have a Ph.D. in engineering or a related discipline prior to hire date.
