JOB GOAL

Under the direction of the Vice President, Enrollment Management & Student Services, the Assistant Vice President and Dean of Student Affairs plans, organizes, controls, and provides direction and oversight for Academic Advising, Career, Student Accessibility Services, Retention and Counseling Services, Veteran Services, Student Life and Leadership, Student Discipline, and Title IX.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Oversees and directs all student affairs programs College District wide. Supervises Assistant Dean of Student Affairs and Enrollment Management (WC), Assistant Director of Career Services, Director of Student Accessibility Services, and Associate Dean of Retention and Student Life, Coordinator of Veteran Services Indirectly supervises the Assistant Dean of Student Affairs and Enrollment Management (EC, NC, PC, and SH).
  2. Responsible for hiring, training and supervision of staff.
  3. Establishes goals and implements strategic planning initiatives to maximize student retention and completion.
  4. Review data metrics and analytics pertaining to staff performance, student services, and retention/completion.
  5. Work collaboratively with other departments, faculty, staff, and students to create and promote a caring campus as well as ensure policy and procedures are followed.
  6. Respond to crisis and emergencies as needed.
  7. Prepares the annual evaluations of direct reports. Reviews and endorses student affairs personnel evaluations prepared by those direct reports. Contributes in Assistant Dean of Student Affairs & Enrollment Management personnel evaluations prepared by the Campus Provosts.
  8. Works directly with and is involved in deliberations with the Campus Provosts and Vice President, Enrollment Management & Student Services for the employment of Student Affairs personnel.
  9. Updates job descriptions as necessary for all pertinent positions; forwards recommendations to the Vice President, Enrollment Management & Student Services.
  10. Reviews, monitors, and makes recommendations to departmental web pages for effectiveness and accuracy.
  11. Develops the annual academic advising and registration calendar.
  12. Establishes and refines administrative processes in areas of responsibility which involves annual review and updates to Internal Management Memorandums, as needed.
  13. Serves as Chair for the Enterprise Resource System Student Records implementation for Student Affairs. Serves on President’s Administrative Leadership Team, Council of Student Affairs, Council of Academic Affairs and other committees as assigned.
  14. Manages, develops, and administers the annual budget for area of responsibility. Prepares proposed budgets for areas of responsibility. Coordinates with the respective Campus Provost on needed special equipment and facilities budget amendments, and personnel, equipment, materials, and enhancement requests.
  15. Serves as a student advocate for students and addresses their concerns promoting support services (internal and external).
  16. Oversees student discipline complaints for investigation, mediation, and possible resolution.
  17. Reviews, approves/denies, late add/drop and withdrawal exception requests.
  18. Oversees the implementation and coordination of 2+2 Agreements (i.e. FUSE, Ignite, Direct Connect, etc.).
  19. Works collaboratively with the Pasco and Hernando School Districts on the execution of Dual Enrollment Agreements. Oversees the Dual Enrollment Online Registration process.
  20. Assists the Vice President, Enrollment Management & Student Services in the preparation of District Board of Trustees meeting agendas and prepares draft changes to Board Rules.
  21. Provides input for college publications (Quick Reference Guide) and coordinates distribution of these publications with the appropriate staff.
  22. Work collaboratively with Marketing on registration marketing campaigns and student success promotions.
  23. Monitors and analyzes counseling programs and services for educational and operational efficiencies.
  24. Responds to difficult and sensitive student and faculty inquires and complaints and assists with resolutions and alternative recommendations.
  25. Oversees all Title IX Complaints.
  26. Requests and responds to research relating to areas of supervision – including student satisfaction assessments of departmental services and programs.
  27. Coordinates College compliance with state and federal laws relating to students’ rights and responsibilities.
  28. Assists in carrying out the Equity Plan in accordance with its provisions.
  29. Assists with supervision in preparing annual long-term plans for the Division of Student Affairs.
  30. Performs other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS / QUALIFICATIONS

  • An earned Master’s Degree from a regionally accredited institution
  • Five (5) years of administrative experience at a post-secondary institution

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES

  • Three (3) years supervisory experience required as well as computer literacy
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Travel throughout the Pasco-Hernando State College Service District Required

  • An earned Doctorate degree from a regionally accredited institution
  • Seven (7) years of administrative experience within Student Affairs at a post-secondary institution
