Position Summary:
Reporting to the Vice President for Human Resources, the Assistant Vice President, Human Resources, Operations serves as a key member of Human Resources (HR) senior leadership team and is responsible for leading and overseeing strategic initiatives to support the modernization and reimagining of the Human Resources function as a best in class operation. The AVP provides leadership to HR operations and sets strategies and oversees HRIS, Data and Reporting, People Operations, and Benefits areas. The incumbent will be responsible for leading and overseeing the implementation of the HRM module of NJIT’s new ERP, Workday platform. The AVP will serve as a change catalyst to represent HR in a variety of strategic, forward-thinking initiatives while aligning with NJIT’s goals and mission.
Essential Functions:
- Oversees the HR Operations area to drive business process improvements and a more integrated and seamless experience for staff, faculty and students. In conjunction with HR senior management assists in the development of human resource strategies to foster a sense of growth and accountability and raise the visibility and credibility of HR.
- Leads and directs strategic initiatives both within HR and across the campus. Serves as an HR expert and a voice for campus staff, faculty & students to support the alignment of the university’s strategies and goals.
- Oversees the implementation of HR processes within the new ERP environment. Assess ERP functional requirements as the lead for HR and supports the HR workstream leaders to ensure work assignments and deliverables are handled timely. .Act as the HR liaison to NJIT Information Services and Technology (IST), Workday implementation consultants, to ensure cross-functional interdepartmental needs are carried out and met.
- Champions accuracy and data integrity based on data gathering stage and ensures effective data-informed decision making. Understands the university’s data and reporting needs and strives to create an environment where HR data is accurate, clean, accessible, and useful.
- Creates training programs that prepare campus partners to fully utilize HR systems.

Prerequisite Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree required.
- Minimum 8 years of experience in human resources.
- 5 years of management experience with the ability to foster teamwork and direct the work of others.
- Proven leadership skills with the ability to collaborate with others within HR and across the university.
- Proven change management experience of large-scale initiatives within complex organizations.
- Strong creative problem-solving skills and the ability to work effectively to lead a team or be a part of a team.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Demonstrated experience in large complex ERP platforms (e.g. Workday, Banner, Peoplesoft/Oracle, etc.).
- Decision-making skills.
- Extensive experience with concepts and principles of one or more related HR areas.
- At the university’s discretion, the education and experience prerequisites may be excepted where the candidate can demonstrate to the satisfaction of the university and an equivalent combination of education and experience specifically preparing the candidate for success in the position.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Advanced Degree.
- SHRM-SCP/SPHR certification.
- Experience in a unionized environment.
- Experience in higher education or the public sector.
- Understanding of payroll operations and IRS rules and regulations.

Salary Information:
In compliance with the NJ Pay Transparency Law, the annual salary range for this position is $175k-$190k (USD). NJIT considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate’s work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as, market and organizational considerations when extending an offer. This pay range represents base pay only and excludes any additional items such as incentives, bonuses or other items.
