Position Summary
The Assistant Dean of Career Technical Education serves as the administrator for career-technical education programs and collaborates with workforce development on college-wide, short-term credit training, credit training for existing business and industry, federal vocational funds, and grants for credit training. The Assistant Dean of Career Technical is also responsible for collaborating with the Dean of Academics and Career Technical Education on curriculum in the management of all career technical education programs.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Provides day-to-day supervision of career technical education instructors to include recruitment and training, evaluations, faculty/adjunct faculty orientation and assuring timely completion of reports (attendance rosters, grades, etc).
- Collaborates with workforce development to identify,participate, and provide leadership for all credit grant proposals and grant-funded programs related to or involving credit workforce development and/or career technical educationtraining.
- Maintains appropriate records and files related to the operation of creditshort-term training and career technical education programs.
- Provides leadership within career technical education curriculum as it relates to competency-based instruction, graduate portfolios, student learning outcomes, dual enrollment, schedules, college catalog, development of new programs, program reviews, regional and programmatic accreditation, and institutionaleffectiveness.
- Assists in securing and/or maintaining approval, certification and/or accreditation for programs within the career technical education.
- Assists in the establishment and maintenance of community partnerships to include business and industry, K-12 systems, community and civic organizations, and other higher education institutions.
- Assists with articulation agreements with local secondary schoolsystems.
- Oversees Perkins grant funding, reporting, and budget.
- Maintains strong working relationships with local businesses and industry, program advisory committees, and faculty to ensure equipment and training meets current community needs and workforce partnerships.
- Works with the career technical education program coordinators to provide updated curriculum to meet the needs of businesses and industry.
- Recommends for employment qualified instructional personnel and appropriate changesin assignments in credit career technical educationprograms.
- Coordinates use of career technical education shops and labs for credit andnon-credit training with WorkforceDevelopment.
- Collaborates with Workforce Development to research community business and industry needs for workforce development to create new skills training programs for credit and non-credit, short-term career technical educationofferings.
- Manages all off-campus credit career technical education courseofferings.
- Observes and evaluates credit career technical education instructional programs, including short-term credit trainingprograms.
- Collaborates with the Workforce Development to identify and foster relationships with trained professionals in a wide range of career technical education fields capable of and willing to provide short-term training on behalf of theCollege.
- Provides career technical education expertise to faculty and administrators asneeded.
- Serves on College Committees asrequested.
- Ensures and facilitates the appropriate, orderly, and timely flow of information from the career technical education units of the College to the Dean of Academics and Career Technical Education, Executive Vice President, President, and other members of the administrativestaff.
- Ensures that each constituent career technical education unit participates actively and creatively in the planning process of the College, preparing and implementing an effective annual plan that supports the vision, statement of purpose, and institutional goals and objectives of the College, and carrying out the overall mission of the College as it relates to career technical education.
21. Ensures appropriate control and maintain inventory over physical resources for areas of responsibility.
22. Maintains professional credentials and affiliation with and participate in appropriate local, state, regional, and professional organizations.
23. Supervises and assists the career technical aspects of registration and advising as needed.
24. Initiates and builds partnerships with employers to develop students’ opportunities for experiential endeavors.
25. Represents the institution in a positive manner.
26. Complies with all policies of the ACCS Board of Trustees, Alabama Community College System, Alabama Commission on Higher Education, Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges, programmatic accrediting bodies, certification standards, and the College.
27. Retains and submits documentation as requested to support accreditation efforts.
28. Assumes other work-related responsibilities as assigned by the Dean of Academics and Career Technical Education, Executive Vice President, and/or the President .
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
- Master’s Degree in education or administration or Bachelor’s Degree in career technical related field with supervisory experience required.
- At least three (3) years’ work experience in business and industry.
- Teaching experience required.
- Experience in developing new curriculum or working with career/technical and accreditation of programs.
Required Minimum Qualifications:
- Excellent oral, auditory, and written communication skills.
- Competency in the use of instructional technology.
- Excellent organizational skills.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, other employees, industry craftspeople, human resource directors, plant and office supervisors, and public.
- Ability to project a professional and congenial demeanor.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift up to 30lbs.
- Prolonged sitting and standing at times.
- Some overnight travel involved.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to travel independently.
- Ability to work with large groups.
- Ability to traverse both campuses.
- Ability to work flexible hours.
