Job Description
The University of Nevada, Reno School of Medicine (UNR Med) invites applications for the position of Associate Dean for Student Affairs, a key leadership role responsible for advancing student success, wellness, and professional development across the MD program. This position oversees a broad portfolio of student services and collaborates across departments to foster an inclusive, supportive, and high-performing learning environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage student services including academic advising, financial aid, scholarships, debt management, records, counseling, and wellness initiatives.
- Oversee student governance and student organizations in compliance with NSHE policy.
- Monitor student academic progress and conduct, serving as liaison to the Student Promotion and Conduct Committee (SPCC).
- Direct the Office of Career Advising and supervise the Career Advising Coordinator.
- Collaborate with the Senior Associate Dean for Undergraduate Academic Affairs to support students’ transition to residency.
- Partner with the Associate Dean of Inclusive Excellence to develop programming around professional identity formation.
- Promote a positive learning environment in collaboration with the Office of Academic Affairs.
- Work in close collaboration with the Associate and Assistant Deans for Curricular Affairs and the Associate Dean for Institutional Wellness.
- Manage budgets, personnel, and strategic planning for the Office of Student Affairs.
- Ensure compliance with LCME standards and implement continuous quality improvement strategies.
- Participate in institutional strategic planning and policy development aligned with UNR Med’s educational mission.
- Supervise and support the professional development of student affairs staff and faculty.
Required Qualifications:
- Terminal degree (MD, DO, PhD, EdD, or equivalent).
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in medical education, student affairs, or academic leadership.
- Demonstrated commitment to student advocacy, wellness, and diversity.
- Strong leadership, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Familiarity with LCME standards and accreditation processes.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in counseling, student development, or academic advising.
- Prior leadership role in an allopathic medical school.
- Knowledge of current trends in medical education and student support services.
Compensation Grade
Associate Professor – III
Professor – IV
Salary is competitive and commensurate with related education and experience.
