Job Description:
Coppin State University, a fully accredited institution and a member of the University System of Maryland is accepting applications for a full-time Tenure-Track Associate Professor of Education to lead the Department of Instructional Leadership and Professional Development within the College of Arts & Sciences and Education. Founded in 1900, Coppin is an urban residential Historically Black College and University (HBCU), serving nearly 2,500 students enrolled in day, evening, weekend, and online courses. The finalist will serve as the administrative lead for the department and must demonstrate strong leadership skills and have knowledge of areas housed within the department – teacher leadership, early childhood, elementary, or special education at the graduate level. The top candidate must possess the knowledge, skills, and disposition necessary to serve in a leadership role and be willing to be appointed to a leadership role. The preferred candidate must bring a leadership background that demonstrates experience in providing support to students and a strong interaction with colleagues in support of the academic unit and must be knowledgeable about accreditation, specifically Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP). Knowledge of program approval process is also expected.
Responsibilities:
- Support the growth and development of the department (students, faculty, staff, and programs), including program growth, accreditation, program review and approval processes, strategic planning, building external partnerships, supporting retention activities, advising, etc.
- Deliver instruction.
- Enhance research experience with the goal of further developing an active research and publication agenda within the department.
- Provide service on Departmental, College, and University-Wide Committees.
- Other tasks necessary to support the activities within the department.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education (include licenses, certifications, etc.):
- A doctoral degree in an area in education from an accredited university.
Experience:
- At least three years of experience in higher education leadership.
- Experience in teaching courses in education with research related background in one of the identified areas.
- An established record of leadership and supervisory experience.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Other Characteristics:
- Outstanding communication skills in writing, speaking, and listening.
- Effective interpersonal skills.
- Knowledge and skills in program planning, project management, and academic administration.
- Evidence of successful collaboration, interdisciplinary work, and ability to handle sensitive situations and information with discretion.
- Ability to work effectively with internal and external constituents.
