The Oxford School of Global and Area Studies (OSGA) is a leading center for the interdisciplinary study of world regions, examining their political, cultural, economic, and social dynamics in comparative and global perspective. OSGA delivers world-class teaching and research across Africa, China, Latin America, the Middle East, Japan, Russia and Eastern Europe, and South Asia.
The Department of Politics and International Relations (DPIR) is among the largest and most prestigious departments of its kind worldwide. It supports major research initiatives, hosts a dynamic community of visiting scholars, and includes a strong cohort of postdoctoral researchers funded through competitive fellowships.
About the Role:
The University of Oxford invites applications for an Associate Professor in the Politics of Latin America, jointly held by DPIR and OSGA, and associated with a Governing Body Fellowship at St Antony’s College.
This is a full-time, permanent post, subject to successful review after five years, commencing in the 2026/27 academic year.
The appointee will conduct research of international excellence in Latin American politics, contribute to undergraduate and graduate teaching and supervision, and play a leading role in developing Latin American Studies and comparative politics within Oxford.
About You:
Applicants must hold a doctorate in Political Science or a closely related discipline (awarded by 1 October 2025) and demonstrate:
- An outstanding record of research in Latin American and comparative politics.
- A clear ambitious research agenda with potential to attract major funding.
- Proven or potential excellence in teaching and supervision.
- Strong organisational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
- A commitment to equality, diversity, and inclusion in research, teaching, and administration.
Desirable attributes include fieldwork experience, expertise in Brazilian politics, and a willingness to teach International Relations of Latin America and engage in outreach and public engagement.

The postholder will be based at the Latin American Centre, St Antony’s College, with duties divided between DPIR and OSGA.
