Job SummaryThe Associate Vice President for Strategic Services and Deputy CIO supports strategic operational planning and reporting while managing the Strategic Services portfolio, encompassing Business Relationship Management, Portfolio and Project Management, Governance processes, Compliance and Privacy, and Business Analysis capabilities. The AVP and Deputy CIO Builds strong cross-functional relationships to deliver insights that drive strategic advantage, operational efficiency, and revenue growth.
General Responsibilities
- Collaborates with peers to synthesize diverse data into actionable recommendations that align with and advance organizational strategy, while considering IT capacity and a governance process.
- Serves as a member of the Chief Information Officer and Vice President for Information Technology’s senior leadership team.
- Champions data-informed decision-making and ensure business requirements are accurately captured and translated into technical solutions.
- Implements and maintains project governance frameworks, risk management practices, and performance metrics.
- Manages the design and development of the true portfolio review process to include Continual Service Improvement program and ITIL practice within the portfolio.
- Serves as a key liaison between IT and administrative units to ensure technology investments support institutional priorities and define business and process requirements for new technology.
- Mentors and develops business relationship managers, business analysts, and project managers to build a high-performing, service-oriented team.
- Leads the strategic services function to foster strong partnerships with campus stakeholders, ensuring their needs are understood and addressed through IT services and solutions and improving business processes across departments.
- Resolves complex strategic problems with broad implications requiring creative and innovative problem-solving.
- Promotes a culture of collaboration, transparency, and continuous improvement across stakeholder engagements, establishing controls for ensuring efficient and effective strategic services are performed.
- Oversees the planning, execution, and delivery of IT projects, ensuring alignment with strategic priorities, timelines, and budgets.
- Maintains and chairs a governance process to assess solution approach, gain acceptance of solution, and ensure decisions are made and deviations from standards are properly identified, addressed, and prioritized.
- Leads management reviews and opportunity assessment processes that identify improvement opportunities related to process efficiency, cost savings, business model expansion and competitive advantages.
- Utilizes vendor management opportunities to capitalize on IT capacity and governance by aligning IT contracts with Purchasing.
- Leads the compliance and privacy functions within IT Portfolio to ensure solutions are implemented within all state, local, federal guidelines.
- Optimizes licensing and maintenance in IT contracts by reviewing and evaluating needs and liaison with Purchasing to ensure fiscal responsibility in IT purchasing and contracts.
- Develops and oversees budgets and operational forecasts. Accountable for ensuring budgets are followed appropriately.
QualificationsEDUCATION
Required
- Master’s degree in IT or business management related field, or MBA
Preferred
- Advanced degree and deep understanding of Portfolio and Operational Management
WORK EXPERIENCE
Required
- 10 years’ progressively advanced experience in portfolio management in a large, complex organization
- Experience should include budget planning and development, data/trend analysis and interpretation, and personnel management
- Experience to include 5 years of leadership in strategic services
Preferred
- Experience in a higher education environment
- Prior experience with customer service or business relationship management or account management
