Job description

Austin Peay State University’s Department of Allied Health Sciences seeks a 9-month, non-tenure track clinical faculty member for a well-established, NAACLS-accredited, Bachelor of Science program in Medical Laboratory Science. The position will begin in Fall 2026. This is a three year renewable contract.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Teach laboratory courses in Microbiology, Hematology, and Clinical Chemistry with some lectures in Microbiology. May occasionally teach in areas such as Molecular Diagnostics, Immunology, Immunohematology and/or general courses within the Department of Allied Health Sciences;
  • Teach in-person on the Austin Peay State University campus in Clarksville, Tennessee Monday – Friday during the academic year. Summer classes for extra compensation may also be available.
  • Manage the laboratory instrumentation, resources, and consumables within the Medical Laboratory Science Program.
  • Maintain chemical inventory, freezer inventory, affiliation agreements, and other safety or standard operating procedures.
  • Provide oversight for medical laboratory science clinical internships;
  • Visit clinical sites;
  • Participate in recruitment initiatives and events, some of which may be scheduled outside regular weekday hours;
  • Assist with program accreditation;
  • Perform advising duties in support of students in medical laboratory science majors; and
  • Other duties as assigned by Austin Peay State University.

  • Develop and implement evaluation and assessment techniques that are appropriate for each course.
  • Be available, knowledgeable, and demonstrate proficiency in the practice of academic advisement of students.
  • Serve effectively on committees and other appropriate functions that assist in University governance.

Physical Requirements

  • Exerting up to 15 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.

Required Minimum Qualifications

  • Nationally recognized certification MLS(AMT) or MLS(ASCP)
  • Tennessee licensure or eligibility required.
  • Masters or Doctorate in Clinical Laboratory Science, Medical Laboratory Science, Health Sciences, or related scientific field preferred. Degree is required to be conferred no later than August 1, 2026.
  • Other masters or doctoral degrees are considered.
  • Work experience as a Medical Laboratory Scientist
  • Must be qualified to teach all medical laboratory science lecture and laboratory courses at the undergraduate level, and other courses supportive of or relevant to the medical laboratory science curriculum.
  • A background search will be required of the successful candidate.
