COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

  • Salary Range: Yearly Salary of $86,901 – $121,795 (25/26 Faculty Salary Schedule); Placement within this range is determined by teaching experience, other related professional experience, and academic degrees. Contracted salary is for 177 days per year (August through May) as specified in the All Faculty Association Contract, Article 8. AFA Contract – Articles. The salary for this position will be prorated to 50% since the appointment begins in January 2026.

Santa Rosa Junior College is seeking an individual with demonstrated instructional skills to join an outstanding team of faculty and instructional administrators to provide high quality programs and services to our district, our community, and most importantly, our students. This is a full-time, regular contract position in the Counseling Department at Santa Rosa Junior College, beginning Spring Semester, January 2026. Appointments are contingent upon funding and Board approval.

DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION

The Counseling Department provides counseling and instruction to current and prospective students. Counselors provide academic, vocational and career related information that assists each individual in achieving their immediate and long range academic and occupational goals. Counseling is an integral, complementary part of the instructional process that facilitates educational equity and retention. The Counseling Department participates in the educational experience by creating a climate that supports learning as well as self-understanding in order to promote effective decision-making and encourages students to develop personal responsibility in order to achieve their goals and aspirations benefiting themselves, the college and the community.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

The Generalist assigned to the Santa Rosa Campus serves as a regular member of the Counseling Department faculty with a potential assignment to support general students and those participating in special programs such as: Health Science programs, Athletics, International, Veterans, Probation/Dismissal, Transfer, Career, MESA, Credit and Non-Credit EMLS, Second Chance and Rising Scholars, etc. in the development and delivery of counseling services related to transfer, vocational/occupational programs, and academic skill development.

The Generalist will be assigned responsibilities including but not limited to developing and monitoring programs that address student educational goals and plans, follow up activities, and creating curriculum that strengthens the ability of our students to complete their academic goals in a reasonable time frame. Counselors teach counseling classes, conduct orientations, lead workshops and seminars; assist in developing and implementing necessary outreach and retention programs to meet needs identified by the college and its mission.

SRJC offers counseling services and courses at two campuses, located in Santa Rosa and Petaluma, as well as multiple satellite locations within the district, including on-line. While the primary assignment is the Santa Rosa Campus, please note the district reserves the right of assignment to any location, and that assignments could involve any combination of day or evening services. Counselors assume responsibility for maintaining currency in the field and for updating existing courses and developing new curricula (including courses that serve community needs, such as short, non-credit, or on-line courses); assisting in the assessment of student learning outcomes; participating in department activities and other college service such as committee work; and participating in community outreach on behalf of the college.

Minimum Qualifications

Required Qualifications:
Master’s in counseling, rehabilitation counseling, clinical psychology, counseling psychology, guidance counseling, educational counseling, social work, career development, marriage and family therapy or marriage, family and child counseling, OR the equivalent (NOTE: A bachelor’s degree in one of the listed degrees and a license as a Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT) is an alternative qualification for this discipline.)

Requires a sensitivity to, and understanding of, the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated recent academic Counseling experience, particularly in a community college or related setting.
  • Teaching and presentation experience, particularly in a community college or related setting.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with students from diverse backgrounds who have a broad range of academic skills, language abilities, motivation and educational/occupational goals.
  • Experience counseling disproportionately impacted students.
  • Demonstrated commitment to equity practices and advocacy.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with students whom English is not their primary language (i.e. ELL, first generation, undocumented)
  • Demonstrated experience with computer technology, social media, and web-based technology, particularly related to academic counseling in a community college setting.
  • Knowledgeable with systems in monitoring student progress (i.e. Banner, DegreeWorks, CRM Advise, etc.).
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently with initiative.
  • Previous counseling experience working with students in special populations, including but not limited to: Athletics, Health Science programs, International students, Veterans, students on Probation/Dismissal, Transfer students, Career Counseling, MESA and STEM Counseling, Credit and Non-Credit EMLS, Second Chance and Rising Scholars students, CTE Programs, etc.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT (Prior to beginning employment):

  1. In accordance with Federal Law all employees must provide proof of eligibility to work in the United States.
  2. Must be fingerprinted in California (no exceptions) and have background clearance (at applicant’s expense).
  3. Must be willing to work on-site as determined by the department (the Sonoma County Junior College District does not offer remote only’ assignments).
  4. Must take a TB test (once hired and every four years thereafter).
  5. Within 6 months of employment, must complete required District trainings on topics such as Sexual Harassment and Abusive Conduct Prevention, and Title IX, Mandated Reporter.
