Essential Functions:
The Dean of Nursing and Allied Health is responsible for planning, implementation, and evaluation of all phases of the nursing program; accountable for complying with the Texas Board of Nurse Examiners rules and regulations, the Nursing Practice Act, the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board, and the policies and procedures of the College. The Dean of Nursing and Allied Health is additionally responsible for the coordination, development, implementation, and evaluation of the curricula for courses, programs, and activities in various health care professions offered by Coastal Bend College.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Ensure that the philosophy/mission and objectives/outcomes of the nursing education programs are consistent with those of the College, reflect the diversity of the service areas and are consistent with professional, educational, and ethical standards of nursing.
Ensure that program objectives/outcomes reflect applicable entry level competencies as identified by the Texas Board of Nurse Examiners; that clinical objective/outcomes and program organization facilitate the achievement of program objectives/outcomes, and work with faculty to review/revise all of the above on a regular basis.
Provide written personnel policies for allied health faculty that meet accepted educational standards and are consistent with college policies.
Determine faculty qualifications/number according to Texas Board of Nurse Examiners regulations, College policy, as well as ensuring the student enrollment is sufficient to meet current needs of the program, in addition to making recommendations for a recruitment plan. Faculty qualifications shall be included in the official files of the program.
Oversee all teaching assignments within the Nursing program, to ensure the assignments commensurate with faculty educational preparation and experience in nursing and are in compliance with all applicable College and Texas Board of Nurse Examiners requirements. Facilitate regular faculty meetings in accordance with written policies and procedures and/or bylaws that provide for members’ participation in the College Institutional Effectiveness process and annual total program evaluation needs.
Implement/written plans for faculty orientation, professional development, and evaluation. Direct student policies that meet the current and future needs of the program and comply with applicable College and regulatory agency rules and regulations.
Direct the nursing program of study that meets policies/procedures, rules and regulations of the College and all applicable regulatory agencies for current needs and future development.
Manage clinical learning experiences and resources that meet current and future needs of the program and comply with applicable College and regulatory agency rules and regulations.
Make recommendations to the Chief Academic Officer for physical facilities, learning resources, library, departmental holdings, and technology appropriate for the level of curriculum and sufficient for current and future program needs.
Maintain accurate and current records in a confidential manner, which are accessible to appropriate parties.
Assess potential for program changes as necessary to meet the demands of the services areas, program growth, technology availability and other applicable factors and provide data and written recommendations as applicable.
Teach one (1) course maximum each Fall and Spring.
Liaison with other College divisions as applicable to establish, update or expand program.
Serve on College committees as assigned by college president.
Ensure that the philosophy/mission and objectives/outcomes of the various health profession programs are consistent with those of the College, reflect the diversity of the services area and are consistent with professional, educational, and ethical standards.
Conduct health industry research and analysis including appropriate market research, data collection, and analysis, as well as educational research in the various health professions.
Coordinate the annual and long-range departmental planning and evaluation processes and budgeting as related to health professions educational programs.
Provide leadership for and coordinate student recruitment activities of faculty. Coordinate and develop courses, programs, training, and activities for various health professions educational programs.
Oversee health professions educational programs, including design and revision of courses; identification of resources; coordination of course offerings, registration, and evaluation. Seek grant funding sources related to health professions education.
Ensure compliance with state-mandated performance measures and utilize data for continual program improvement.
Recruit and recommend the employment of both full-time and part-time faculty and ensure credentials comply with all applicable licensing and accreditation requirements.
Supervise and evaluate directly reporting faculty and staff.
Assume a leading role in the advisement of students in the health professions fields and serve as an information/resource person for the public.
Assist students and others with the resolution of concerns and complaints. Develop effective partnerships with healthcare industries in the identification of training needs.
Serve as the College’s liaison with these industries.
Assess and update courses and program requirements based on industry needs.
Analyze, develop, and implement industry needs for new courses and/or programs.
Coordinate the functioning of health professions program advisory committees.
Attend regional, state-wide, and national meetings to maintain professional growth and represent the College.
Submit and/or confirm all coursework with relevant state agencies, credentialing and accreditation organizations to ensure the approval of the certification or the course or program and required professional CEUs for license/certification and renewal.
Coordinate the logistics of the instructional delivery, mobile delivery, facilities, tools, equipment, and required resources, including labs needed to deliver and complete the course or program.
Seek ongoing improvement for efficiencies and for the reduction of cost in order to enhance students.
Assist in creating and maintaining brochures, applications, web resources, and other program marketing materials.
Assist and promote networking including attending job fairs, high school events professional association meetings, job clubs and interface in the community organizations.
Collaborate with various CBC departments to integrate courses, and opportunities for stackable credentials.
Other duties as assigned by the College President and the College Chief Academic Officer.
Other Duties :
Will participate in Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP); College responsibilities such as Committees; Duties as assigned by the President or Vice President of Instruction.
Travel Requirements:
Will require travel to distant site locations and conferences.
Environment :
Work may generally be performed in an office setting with frequent interruptions and changes in the workflow/volume. May require some outdoor work for CBC events.
Minimum Qualifications:
Master’s degree in nursing Three (3) years of teaching experience in a professional nursing education program and/or demonstrated knowledge, skills and abilities in administration within a professional nursing education program. Must hold a current license to practice as a registered nurse in the state of Texas. Three years’ work experience with industry and the ability to work with diverse groups of clients/customers and College staff. Must possess the required knowledge to collaborate effectively with industry and community and the ability to effectively market and promote Health Professions programs.
