Job Summary
The Dean of English, INRW, Social Sciences, Kinesiology, and Arts under the supervision of the Provost, will serve as the strategic and operational champion to enhance student success by engagement, retention, and completion. The dean will serve as the academic supervisor over the Division Chair of English, INRW, Social Sciences, Kinesiology, and Arts serving on the Deans Leadership Team; working closely with all academic deans and directors to offer co-curricular activities that support student development, academic achievement, and the College’s vision, mission, and values.
Responsibilities and Duties:
- Provide leadership for program development and review. Work directly with advisory boards, division chairs, and faculty on curriculum development, additions, modifications, and deletions. Prepare and submit program and course revision documentation, both internally and for THECB and SACS
- Provide leadership in the hiring and performance management of the academic division. Includes recruitment, training, professional development and evaluation of all full-time and part-time faculty & staff in the division. Verify faculty credentials
- Provide leadership in addressing & resolving student complaints, academic dishonesty appeals, faculty complaints & grievances, and other issues.
- Supervise the Instructional Division Chairs.
- Coordinate and oversee schedule development and College catalog entries, including course cancellation decisions
- Disseminate Institutional Effectiveness follow up and data entry in Trac Dat for areas I supervise as well as serve on the instructional leadership team to contribute to areas of need.
- Generate reports for multiple offices and grant projects as requested.
- Monitor, manage, and update all information and communications out of managed academic divisions.
- Communicate and disseminate student success information to the college community.
- Serve on the Deans Leadership Team and District Leadership Team, as well as service on various committees and college wide projects for student success.
- Other duties as assigned. Responsibilities and duties may change based on the needs of the department and the institution.
Required Education
Master’s Degree required
Master’s Degree in education, leadership, student support, arts or sciences or related field preferredRequired Skills & Abilities
- Ability to communicate effectively with students, faculty, administration, and tutors.
- Ability to work collaboratively with a wide range of clients and stakeholders (tutors, students, staff, administration, and faculty).
- Knowledge of working with students in a college setting, preferably a 2 year college.
- Knowledge of serving students of many different backgrounds as well as working with students with disabilities and ADA.
- Knowledge of working with low income and First Generation College students, students whose parents did not graduate or attend college.
- Demonstrate professionalism and quality customer service.
- Implement assessment strategies to support continuous improvement.
- Ability to manage budgets and facilities.
- Knowledge of maintaining effective working relationships.
- Ability to understand and follow instructions precisely.
Required Experience
- Five (5) years of experience in administrative management, student support services, or related field required
Preferred Experience
- Three (3) years supervisory experience in academic field preferred
- Higher education work experience, specifically with relevant current higher education issues (AI, OER, CLR, etc.) preferred
- Evidence of continual professional development in the field of concentration preferred
