Franklin & Marshall College is recruiting for a full-time Director of Student Success.

Job Details:

  • Location: F&M Campus – Lancaster, PA
  • Classification: Full-time, Exempt
  • Schedule: 40 hours, Monday – Friday. Evenings and weekends may be required.
  • Reports to: Dean of Students
  • Department: Student Affairs
  • Approved Salary Range: $57,000.00 – $65,000.00

Job Description:

The Director of Student Success plays a critical role in holistically supporting students by bridging various aspects of the student experience. This position serves as a vital resource for students navigating academic matters in collaboration with the House Dons and academic advisors. This position acts as a liaison between students and key campus departments and resources in Academic Affairs, the Registrar, Student Academic Support (SAS), the Student Wellness Center, Residential Life, and Athletics. In coordination with members of the faculty, this position will guide students through challenges that extend beyond the scope of traditional academic advising.

Essential Functions:

  • Provide proactive, personalized academic advising and coaching for students.
    • Lead efforts to identify and coordinate response to at-risk students, partnering with other leaders in Academic and Student Affairs.
    • Identify opportunities to collaborate with faculty and staff about student success strategies to enhance interventions, processes, and overall effectiveness.
    • Process Academic Advisory letters and faculty feedback, and meet with students for follow-up discussions.
  • Work closely with academic departments to identify trends and create intervention strategies for students on academic probation or warning.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Academic Advising and the House Dons to assist faculty in advising students on challenges related to absenteeism and classroom behavior.
  • Advise students considering short-term Leaves of Absence (voluntary or required), guide them through the process, and support their reintegration to campus upon return.
    • Establish and coordinate comprehensive success plans and provide ongoing support for students returning from a leave of absence.
    • Oversee return from academic suspension cases, maintaining regular communication with students on suspension and reviewing reinstatement petitions.
    • Manage the leave and reinstatement cycle by collecting supporting documentation, processing leave requests, and overseeing the student reinstatement process.
  • In collaboration with the Dean of Students, provide direct engagement for high-level student cases related to academic concerns.
  • Provide an annual report on student success strategies, interventions, processes, and outcomes to the Vice President for Student Affairs. Provide relevant student retention/student success data to the division of Institutional Research in order to track and analyze retention data, identify trends and areas of concern, and recommend improvements.
  • Participate in relevant College committees and initiatives that address student academic concerns such as the DipCares Team and the CAS committee.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Student Affairs, Counseling, Higher Education or related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in student retention, conduct management, academic advising, or related roles.
  • Experience with student information systems such as Ellucian, Maxient or DegreeWorks.
  • Understanding of student development theories, retention best practices, and challenges facing first-generation students.
  • Strong leadership, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Excellent oral, written, interpersonal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Google Suite Products (Docs, Gmail, Sheets, Slides, Drive)
  • Evidence of a commitment to community and belonging.
  • Successful interview.
  • Successful completion of background checks.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree in Student Affairs, Counseling, Higher Education or related field.
  • Prior professional work experience at a small liberal arts College.
  • Proficiency in data analysis and assessment tools to measure the impact of student success initiatives.

Additional Information:
