This is a regular, full-time, tenure-track position. Assignment is a 166-day schedule of 15-18 contact hours per week, Monday through Friday, between the hours of 7:00 a.m. and 10:00 p.m. Work may require day and evening hours at various locations during the fall and spring semesters with an expectation of regular campus presence. Potential for summer hours also exists. This position may entail work at least two evenings a week during the fall and spring semesters. Teaching responsibilities will occur at regional Academic Centers and at other approved KCC locations. This position will require the ability to instruct in a variety of modalities.
Position Summary
This full-time tenure track faculty position reports to the Chair, Math and Science. The position is responsible for instruction and delivery of Human Anatomy, Human Physiology, and/or Basic Biology course outcomes, teaching full load during fall and spring academic semesters. Instructional assignments will be made at various KCC locations including regional Academic Centers and other KCC approved locations. Instructional modalities may include, but not limited to face-to-face, asynchronous online, and other instructional modalities, as needed. Other responsibilities include maintaining weekly office hours; participation in student learning outcomes assessment activities; and participation in meetings and committees. Travel is required to regional campuses for instructional assignments, departmental and college meetings, training, and events.
Kellogg Community College is located in Battle Creek, Michigan, a community of approximately 54,000 people. Leisure activities, natural resources and learning opportunities provide a foundation for residents. Located along the I-94 interstate, Battle Creek is within 30 minutes of Kalamazoo, 60 minutes of Lansing and Grand Rapids and within three hours of Detroit, Chicago and Indianapolis.

Physical Demands
The job responsibilities are performed in an office area and presentation venues. Travel by car required. The job has intermittent periods during which continuous physical exertion is required, such as independent mobility between work areas, standing, sitting, stooping, bending, climbing, lifting material or equipment, some of which may be heavy or awkward (8 – 45 pounds). Typically requires regular use of one or more physical senses of medium intensity and long duration. Must meet reasonable deadlines, quotas or demands for accuracy, and may be involved in some mildly unpleasant situations.
Minimum Qualifications
- Master’s degree or higher (or international equivalent) in a field of life science OR a professional degree in the biomedical sciences (e.g., MSN, MD, DO, DC, DPT, DDS, DVM or international equivalents) OR other advanced clinical degreeOR master’s degree or higher in science education combined with appropriate coursework in science or biomedicine. - Demonstrated successful teaching experience in higher education.
- Demonstrated successful experience delivering instruction/training in lecture and lab settings face-to-face and in different modalities (for example, hybrid, fully online, by videoconference).
- Demonstrated commitment to equity and inclusion, and experience working with a diverse population.
- Must have the ability and means to travel to main campus and among regional work sites.
Preferred but not Required
- Terminal Degree in a related field of study.
- Evidence of postsecondary teaching experience in Human Anatomy and/or Human Physiology.
- Evidence of postsecondary teaching experience in another discipline area in the Math and Science Department, such as Exercise Science.
- Teaching experience at a community college and/or using learning-centered pedagogy.
- Demonstrated teamwork capabilities.
- Evidence of professional, postsecondary, community service; and/or experience in implementing Service-Learning in a postsecondary environment.
- Demonstrated understanding of science course transferability in higher education.

Job Duties
Essential Function: INSTRUCTION
Description:
- Teach Biology lecture and lab courses, such as transferable Human Anatomy and Human Physiology, by planning, organizing, and delivering instruction using classroom or varied modalities to promote student success within the community and college setting in accordance with college policies and practices.
- Develop and coordinate curriculum and prepare course materials in Biology according to accreditation and best practices in collaboration with other biology faculty.
- Adhere to and continually improve intended course outcomes and develop learning activities, strategies and assessment necessary to achieve course outcomes.
- Engage with key stakeholders to assure current and relevant curriculum necessary for transfer and program preparation.
- Submit student attendance, grades, and other records according to the determined deadlines.
- Assume teaching assignments at all College locations, within all College hours of operation, collaborate with Department Chair to establish a course schedule to meet student needs and in all modalities as needed.
Essential Function: STUDENT RECRUITMENT AND RETENTION
Description:
- Support the Math and Science Department by helping to recruit and retain students in biology and departmental courses and supporting service learning in Biology courses.
- Commit to the advancement of outcomes related to historically underrepresented populations in all Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) areas.
- Serve as a biology expert and enthusiast for students and others seeking information about careers and further education in the discipline. Represent the College in activities to promote STEM education and encourage student enrollment and completion.
- Collaborate with the Admissions Department and the Marketing and Communications Department in program recruitment, promotional, and admission efforts.
- Support and cultivate collaborative partnerships with K-12 school systems and other post-secondary educational institutions to maximize the number of students served by KCC’s Biology courses.
- Collaborate with secondary and postsecondary colleagues to generate opportunities for articulation, dual enrollment, and Early College.
- Develop strategies intended to improve student access; student success, persistence, retention, and completion; and cost efficiency.
- Maintain office hours; foster relationships with students to inspire, mentor, and remediate students in need to encourage retention, persistence, and completion.
Essential Function: CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT
Description:
- Maintain current knowledge of trends in the biology discipline and of best practices in educational methodologies through continuing professional development.
- Collaborate with administration and faculty to maintain continuous quality improvement processes and plan appropriate strategies based on assessment of student learning.
- Participate cooperatively in instructional meetings and committees.
- Seek out and engage with institutional initiatives which enhance the mission of the College.
- Provide service through leadership and participation on workgroups and College and community committees.
Essential Function: SERVICE AND GROWTH
Description:
- Complete assessment responsibilities as it relates to quality initiatives and accreditation standards outlined by Kellogg Community College.
- Mentor Biology adjunct faculty in conjunction with department goals.
- Collaborate with faculty colleagues and administration in strategic and budgetary planning to assure necessary resources.
- Participate in institutional professional development training including but not limited to online teaching/learning and instructional design/delivery.
- Teach in another discipline within the Math and Science Department according to qualifications and credentials possessed, when applicable.
- Other duties may include maintaining/coordinating classroom/laboratories, coordinating and ordering supplies for Biology courses and extracurricular activities.
