The Harold Walter Siebens School of Business at Buena Vista University (BVU) invites applications for a faculty position in Agricultural Business, beginning August 2026. We seek a dynamic educator passionate about undergraduate teaching and shaping the future of agricultural business education. The successful candidate will teach Agricultural Business courses, contribute to the business core and general education curricula, and serve as lead faculty for the Agricultural Business program, guiding curriculum development to ensure alignment with today’s agricultural industry. This role includes collaboration with the Director of BVU’s Ag Institute, BVU’s Ag Experiment Station (“The Farm”), and the Lamberti Center for Rural Entrepreneurship to design hands-on experiences that prepare students for meaningful careers. Depending on credentials, the position may be tenure-track or a term contract.

The Agricultural Business major at BVU equips students with strong analytical, interpersonal, and professional skills grounded in a comprehensive understanding of the field. The Siebens School fosters the development of exemplary business leaders through a challenging and immersive learning environment, including coursework, simulations, internships, projects, travel opportunities, professional conferences, and faculty research partnerships. Students gain especially valuable hands-on experience through engagement with industry partners, the Ag Institute, BVU’s Ag Experiment Station, and the Lamberti Center for Rural Entrepreneurship.

Primary Responsibilities: 

  • Teach 12 credit hours per fall and spring semesters
  • Develop an innovative problem-based curriculum in a positive learning environment
  • Work to incorporate experiential learning opportunities into the student experience
  • Practice quality interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
  • Interact effectively with students and colleagues, function as an independent professional and work effectively as a team member
  • Possess ability and willingness to work with diverse populations
  • Supervise, mentor, and advise students and student organizations
  • Remain active and current in the field through professional development activities
  • Be responsible for University service such as committee work, participation in departmental projects, and academic advising
  • Assist in recruiting students to the University
  • Assist in recruitment visits with prospective students at the University
  • Establish and maintain strong connections with marketing professionals, industry leaders, and organizations to ensure curriculum relevance and facilitate student internships and career opportunities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications: 

  • Master’s Degree in Agricultural Business or a closely related field; or a master’s degree in business with at least 18 graduate credit hours in subject areas sufficient to teach courses in agricultural business, the business core, and general education, along with relevant agricultural business experience. (Non-Tenure Track)
  • Knowledge of Business, US Ag business, and Ag production systems
  • Ability to teach a variety of courses in the ag business, business core, and general education curricula
  • Ability to teach, advise, and guide the professional development of students
  • Ability to build connections with professionals in the industry
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • In addition to meeting the minimum qualifications listed above: Doctorate in Agricultural Business or closely related field; or Doctorate in Business with at least 18 graduate credit hours in subject areas sufficient to teach courses in agricultural business, the business core, and general education, relevant agricultural business experience. (Tenure Track or Non-Tenure Track, depending on Candidate’s qualifications and interests.)
  • Experience teaching at the post-secondary/university level
  • Experience teaching courses in face-to-face and online settings
  • Relevant professional experience in industry
