Job Description:
Coppin State University invites applications for a full-time, non-tenure track teaching position in Philosophy. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching a range of undergraduate courses including General/History of Philosophy and/or African American and Diaspora Philosophy, as these areas will be given special consideration in the selection process. The position requires a strong commitment to undergraduate teaching, mentoring, and fostering an inclusive learning environment. Experience in online course delivery is highly desirable, as the candidate may be expected to teach in hybrid or fully online formats.
Responsibilities:
- Teach a range of undergraduate courses, including Introduction to Philosophy and Ethics and Logic which are General Education courses for undergraduates.
- Hold office Hours and advising sessions with students
- Attend Department and school and University meetings
- Participate in different committees to help move the department in a positive direction.
- Engage in recruiting for Philosophy minors
Minimum Qualifications:
EDUCATION
- Master’s degree in philosophy is required.
EXPERIENCE
- At least some teaching experience at the high school, college, or university level.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Demonstrated excellence in teaching at the high school/college/university level
- Ability to teach core courses in general philosophy, ethics, and Introduction to logic
- Experience with online or hybrid course instruction
- Demonstrate evidence of working with diverse populations of students in an urban environment.
- Demonstrate ability to work collaboratively on department committees
Preferred Qualifications:
- Record of engaging diverse student populations
- Experience developing inclusive and innovative curricula
- Familiarity with learning management systems (Blackboard Ultra)
