Mid-America Christian University seeks a full-time on-campus faculty member with a passion for teaching, and a desire to join faculty and staff to instruct undergraduate courses in Anatomy and Physiology, Microbiology, and other related science subjects. The applicant must have a steadfast Christian background.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Deliver engaging, student-centered instruction and feedback using diverse teaching methods in all assigned courses and labs.
- Maintain scheduled office hours and appointments to provide student-centered support including maintaining accurate course records of attendance, grades, and academic progress.
- Follow the Master course syllabi, assignments, and assessments when teaching that are aligned with MACU departmental and institutional program and learning outcomes.
- Participate in curriculum development, program reviews including university outcomes, and accreditation activities.
- Engage in all required university and department meetings, committee service, and college-wide initiatives. Work with the Lab Manager to schedule any missed lab assignments for students with an excused absence.
- Stay current with developments in the field of science through professional development, including laboratory procedures.
- Support lab personnel with preparation, clean-up, maintenance of lab equipment, supplies, and cadaver specimens.
- Respond to students, administrators, faculty, and staff in a timely manner
- Support the mission and goals of Mid- America Christian University
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Work effectively with a demonstrated ability to teach a diverse student population with varying academic needs and backgrounds.
- Must be flexible in teaching scheduled courses that may include day, evening, weekend (occasional), and/or online classes.
- Familiarity with active learning strategies, inclusive pedagogy, and competency-based education and wish to contribute fully to the life and mission of the University.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
M.S. required with minimum of 18 graduate credit hours in subject content. Prefer applicants with or near completion of a doctorate (Ph.D.) in appropriate field. Teaching experience in both lecture and lab settings of Anatomy and Physiology and Microbiology. Additional preferences with lecture and lab experience in Chemistry, and Cellular/Molecular Biology. Faculty members at MACU also serve as a spiritual mentor and are expected to engage in an active and mature Christian faith and be involved in a local church.
COMPUTER SKILLS:
- Experience with interactive computer programs (e.g. Zoom, Google Meet)
- Experience with using LMS platforms including Canvas
- Experience using 3rd party software such as McGraw-Hill
- Preferred experience using an Anatomage Table
- Operate a computer (macOS, Windows etc.) with a keyboard, pointing device, webcam, and speakers.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Ability to stand for extended periods of time
- Ability to lift and move materials weighing up to 25 pounds (~11 kilograms)
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Laboratory instruction requiring standing for extended periods, lifting lab equipment or supplies, and handling biological or chemical materials with appropriate safety precautions. May be exposed to hazardous materials.
