Position Summary:
The Head of Digital Strategies advises, consults, and partners with the Director of Resource and Digital Strategies while leading a team of expert librarians and professionals in the areas of Digital Collections, Library Systems, and Preservation. The incumbent will be part of a leadership team focused on continually enhancing Hamilton Library’s resources to align with the needs of the college and the curriculum. This position focuses broadly on ensuring that our digital collections are well loved and widely used, our library systems are optimally aligned for today and well positioned for the future, that our leadership and librarians have the data they need to make informed decisions, and that our digital preservation strategies are robust.
Responsibilities:
- Team Leadership
- Supervise and coordinate the work of specialized librarians and professionals in Digital Preservation, Systems, Metadata, Digital Imaging, and Web Development
- Foster collaboration between technical units to ensure integrated workflows and services
- Conduct regular performance evaluations and support professional development opportunities
- Lead team meetings and facilitate cross-departmental communication
- Manage inter and intra team projects
- Library Data
- Implement tools and methodologies for analyzing collection usage, partnering with Head of Collection Strategies
- Oversee creation of reports and visualizations to inform decision-making
- Digital Assets
- Develop comprehensive preservation strategies for Hamilton College digital materials
- Collaboratively establish digitization priorities aligned with Hamilton’s needs
- Inspire library staff and engage faculty in usage of our digital collections through strategic outreach and partnerships
- Oversee digital asset management systems and repository infrastructure
- Lead the integration of library systems and digital platforms
- Coordinate with campus IT on infrastructure needs and technology planning
- Oversee the implementation and maintenance of the library management system
- Ensure interoperability between various library systems and platforms
Education & Experience
- Master’s degree in Library/Information Science or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- 5 years of relevant experience in academic libraries
- Demonstrated supervisory and team leadership abilities
- Project management experience
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of current and emerging technologies in libraries
- Ability to work effectively and empathically with diverse student, faculty, and staff
- Excellent listening, writing, and speaking skills
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively
- Persistence, flexibility, and problem-solving ability
Compensation Range:
$84,000 – $90,000 per year
