Position Summary:

The Medical Assisting & Phlebotomy Instructional Specialist develops, manages, and teaches short-term workforce training courses and programs, and/or other continuing education courses in assigned programs, including Medical Assisting and Phlebotomy. The Medical Assisting & Phlebotomy Instructional Specialist plans, organizes, and supervises the clinical education and/or externship components of the Medical Assistant and Phlebotomy Technician programs. Additional responsibilities include developing, reviewing, revising, and teaching curriculum; overseeing program lab spaces; advising students; ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal requirements; and engaging industry partners. This position must work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

The following are the functions essential to performing this job:

1. Identify, develop, manage, and teach Medical Assisting and Phlebotomy Technician courses that lead to employment through skill development, certification or licensure in the healthcare and safety fields.

2. Communicate and establish contracts between FCC and participating community medical facilities, physician offices, and billing companies.

3. Plan, manage, review and revise the clinical and externship components of the Medical Assisting and Phlebotomy programs to meet evolving practice skills for effectiveness of the experiences.

4. Verify and archive documentation required for externships/clinical placements.

5. Schedule and coordinate all student rotations at the clinical and externship affiliates.

6. Participate in student evaluation and advisement related to externships/clinical placements.

7. Research and establish new affiliate sites.

8. Correspond with and visit affiliate sites for needs, improvements, and upcoming placements.

9. Engage employers to connect Medical Assisting and Phlebotomy Technician students with job openings.

10. Respond to student, faculty, and staff issues in accordance with College policies and procedures.

11. Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations governing course content, recordkeeping requirements, reporting requirements, and student safety.

12. Participate in program review as scheduled and participate in collaborative program development and outreach initiatives with other College departments and external partners.

13. Maintain data confidentiality and integrity and ensure compliance with FERPA (Family Education Rights and Privacy Act and Title IX).

14. Provide input into the development of fiscal year program budgets.

15. Conform to Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s) of the Healthcare Careers team.

16. Participate in the Healthcare Careers Program Advisory Committee (PAC).

17. Provide occasional substitute coverage for Healthcare Careers courses when approved by the Director, Workforce & Community Education.

18. Serve as College representative to the statewide advisory groups that pertain to program areas.

19. Attend conferences and participate in committees internal and external to the college.

20. Perform other duties as assigned.

Salary: $57,383 – $63,121 annually
