The School of Interdisciplinary Informatics (Si2) within the College of Information Science & Technology at the University of Nebraska at Omaha invites applications for a tenure-track or tenured open-rank faculty position in Cybersecurity, to begin Fall 2026. Appointment at the Assistant or Associate Professor rank will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.

We seek candidates who will contribute to the continued growth, national visibility, and strategic advancement of the Cybersecurity (CYBR) program through excellence in teaching, research, and service, with particular emphasis on externally funded research, graduate education, and interdisciplinary collaboration.

Position Responsibilities

  • Teach undergraduate and graduate cybersecurity courses aligned with program needs, including upper-division, graduate-level, and dual-level (4xxx/8xxx) courses supporting both BS and MS CYBR students.
  • Develop, sustain, and grow an active research agenda in cybersecurity or closely related areas, appropriate to rank.
  • Seek and secure external research funding from federal agencies, state partners, foundations, and/or industry.
  • Supervise and mentor graduate students, including MS thesis/project students and PhD students in the college-wide doctoral program.
  • Contribute to curriculum development and continuous improvement efforts within the CYBR program.
  • Provide service to the School of Interdisciplinary Informatics, the College, the University, and the broader cybersecurity community.

Additional expectations include contributing to strategic growth areas in cybersecurity and supporting academic designation activities, including maintenance and expansion of the program’s NSA Centers of Academic Excellence (CAE) designations in Cyber Defense (CAE-CD) and Cyber Operations (CAE-CO), as well as emerging efforts in CAE–AI and CAE–Research.

Required Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in Cybersecurity, Computer Science, Information Technology, or a closely related field by the time of appointment.
  • U.S. citizenship.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with academic, industry, and government partners.
  • Record of scholarly activity in cybersecurity appropriate to rank, evidenced by peer-reviewed publications and/or externally funded research.
  • Demonstrated ability to teach cybersecurity courses at both undergraduate and graduate levels.
  • Experience mentoring graduate students.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively in an interdisciplinary environment.

Additional requirement for appointment at the Associate Professor level:

  • A tenured appointment at an accredited four-year U.S. institution.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Research aligned with strategic areas such as cyber operations, cyber defense, human-centered and usable security, cyber risk and resilience, security analytics and threat intelligence, adversarial and defensive AI, sociotechnical security, or cyber influence and deception.
  • Experience contributing to interdisciplinary research centers, institutes, or strategic initiatives.
  • Experience engaging with government, defense, or industry partners in research, education, or workforce development contexts.
  • Demonstrated experience developing or sustaining external collaborations.
