Position Summary
Houston Christian University (HCU) announces a full-time position for Assistant Professor in our Psychology Department in the field of Social Work to begin Spring 2026. The Department of Psychology is part of the College of Education and Behavior Sciences and houses the Bachelor of Social Work degree. As a faculty member, you will be responsible for teaching undergraduate courses in Social Work, including providing mentorship and guidance to students in the internship phase of the degree program. Additionally, you will be expected to participate in service to the university, which includes participation in departmental activities and committees.
Job Responsibilities:
- College level teaching experience
- Utilize a course syllabus for each course and follow established departmental and institutional guidelines
- Provide timely, quality access to students via personal consultation, electronic communication, and other appropriate methods.
- Provide academic advising, mentorship, and supervision to students
- Evaluate students by established means to measure their progress in achieving course objectives and to inform them in a timely manner of their progress.
- Maintain professional relationships with students, colleagues, and the community
- Contribute to curriculum development and assessment
- Stay current with developments in the field of social work
- Be a productive scholar and active in service to students, the College, and the community
- Submit paperwork and forms in a timely fashion
- Perform other duties as needed
Qualifications:
- PhD or DSW in the field of Social Work
- LCSW
- Professional experience in the field of Social Work
- Teaching experience preferred
- Ability to teach Social Work courses in a manner consistent with the University’s Christian mission and values as articulated in the Ten Pillars
