The Opportunity

The Department of Security Studies and International Affairs (SSIA) invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor who holds a doctorate in intelligence, national or homeland security, international relations, or related discipline. ABD candidates may be considered but must have a doctoral degree at the time of appointment, which is slated to begin in January 2026. The successful candidate must have a record of scholarly productivity, as well as a research agenda relevant to the department’s areas of focus.

Teaching duties will include delivering existing courses in intelligence and security and possibly developing new courses in support of degree programs, in addition to advising and mentoring students. An interest or experience in the design and implementation of exercises and simulations in an experiential lab is preferred but not required. The first-year course load will be 3/3 with the expectation of active research. Applicants with research specializations in intelligence production, intelligence analysis, national or homeland security policy, Open Source intelligence, and strategic decision-making are especially encouraged to apply. Preference will be given to candidates with a record of grant applications and real-world experience in military intelligence or the Intelligence Community.

The SSIA department, home of the first residential campus program in the country to be awarded accreditation by the Council for Accreditation of Emergency Management and Homeland Security Education, offers BS degrees in Homeland Security and Intelligence, as well as Global Conflict Studies and minors in Intelligence, Terrorism Studies, Cybersecurity Application and Management, and International History. SSIA faculty enjoy research support from the department, the College of Arts and Sciences, and the ERAU Office of Sponsored Research.

QualificationsRequired Education/Qualifications:

  • Candidates must have a minimum of a master’s degree (Ph.D. preferred) in Homeland Security, Intelligence Studies, or a closely related field, along with practical experience in homeland security, intelligence, or related government agencies.
  • Experience leading or participating in simulations and experiential learning activities is essential.
  • Strong communication skills, a passion for student development, and a commitment to promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion within the curriculum are essential qualities for success in this role.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior teaching experience, particularly at the collegiate level, is highly desirable.
