The Department of Nursing at Texas Lutheran University invites applications for a tenure-track professorship in nursing. We seek faculty members with outstanding qualifications who share the University’s core values of high standards of excellence in innovative and collaborative research and demonstrate a commitment to health equity in education. The successful candidate will teach both core and research courses, integrate interdisciplinary approaches, promote empirical research in leadership and Nursing. This position is for a 9-month appointment with 12 credit load hours per semester anticipated to begin in Fall 2025 for the Seguin campus location.

Position responsibilities:

  • Maintain their qualifications for assigned teaching in area of expertise.
  • Demonstrate innovative, effective teaching, supervision, and mentoring by engaging students, peers, and others in activities that enhance learning and educational advancement.
  • Serve as advisor, mentor, tutor, or coach as appropriate for learning needs of students.
  • Actively contribute to service to the department, university, profession, and/or community
  • Participate in program assessment and curricular evaluation and revision.
  • Participate in scholarly and research activities to enhance instructional effectiveness and nursing practice, according to appointment, rank, and academic preparation.

Requirements for the position include:

  • Terminal degree in nursing or related field (Applicants ABDs with appropriate assurances of completion date within a year of employment may be considered) and an earned Master’s Degree in Nursing.
  • Hold a current unencumbered license to practice as a registered nurse in the State of Texas
  • Evidence of at least two years of clinical expertise in public/community health, leadership, mental health/psychiatric nursing, obstetrical, and/or medical-surgical nursing to inform teaching, curriculum development, implementation, and evaluation.
  • Commitment to excellence in teaching and advising of undergraduate students consistent with the University and Department mission, values, and outcomes.
  • Ability to work effectively as a team with other faculty members and staff in the department and across campus.
  • Commitment to university/community leadership, outreach, and continued professional development.
  • Commitment to attracting, retaining, and educating students from traditionally underrepresented groups.
  • Understanding and support of the mission of Texas Lutheran University.

The Department of Nursing has approval from the Texas Board of Nursing to offer the accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing and direct entry Master of Science in Nursing degrees. The baccalaureate degree program in nursing and master’s degree program in nursing at Texas Lutheran University is accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (http://www.ccneaccreditation.org). We have an excellent pre-licensure NCLEX-RN pass rate and employment rate for our BSN and MSN graduates. The curriculum is designed to prepare graduates for a nursing career and requires all students to be involved in faculty-mentored research or evidence-based practice projects.
