Position Summary
The Department of Spanish at Villanova University invites applications for an entry-level, tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor, beginning August 2026, with a focus on Contemporary Iberian Studies. This position is open to scholars of literature, culture, and linguistics. Areas of interest may include-but are not limited to-sociolinguistics, transatlantic studies, media studies, diaspora studies, migration, and Afro-Iberian studies. Scholars whose research or teaching involves community engagement and outreach are especially welcome, as are those working with digital humanities and other interdisciplinary methods.

Duties and Responsibilities
The successful candidate will conduct scholarly research and teach courses in their area of expertise, as well as Spanish language courses. Additional responsibilities include advising students and actively participating in the department’s efforts to foster a vibrant and collaborative academic community.
Minimum Qualifications
Candidates should have a Ph.D. in hand or have defended their doctoral dissertation by August 1st, 2026. We seek applicants with strong scholarly promise and a commitment to excellence in teaching. Near-native proficiency in both Spanish and English is required.
