We welcome candidates with excellent academic credentials and those with practice experience in international human rights law, including international criminal law, international humanitarian law and/or human rights, and rule of law issues.

The Director will have the opportunity to develop a vision for the direction of the IHRC. The Director will be responsible for all aspects of running the IHRC, including teaching the related clinical seminar; intensive supervision and mentoring of law students; course planning and teaching; curriculum development; client and/or project selection; individual case and/or project work; and clinic administration. In addition to teaching the courses associated with the IHRC throughout the year, the selected applicant will also teach one non-clinical course per year and serve as the Executive Director of the International Human Rights Law Institute including helping with fundraising for the clinic. This is a full-time, non-tenure track position. The position will begin in the 2025-2026 academic year.

The IHRC is an integral part of DePaul Law’s international human rights law program, which is currently centered around the International Human Rights Law Institute (IHRLI). The IHRLI has been a mainstay of the law school since 1990 when M. Cherif Bassiouni, previous emeritus professor of law who taught in the law school beginning in 1964, founded IHRLI. The IHRLI is at the forefront of contemporary human rights and rule of law research, training and advocacy. The IHRLI has designed and managed projects around the world on post-conflict justice, human rights documentation and analysis, capacity building for legal professionals, gender rights and human trafficking. IHRLI conducts scholarly research on international criminal law, international humanitarian law and a variety of human rights and rule of law issues. The IHRLI also prepares DePaul law students, activists and scholars for careers in human rights through courses, fellowship programs, internships and research opportunities in Chicago and abroad. Additional information about IHRLI can be found at: https://law.depaul.edu/academics/centers-institutes-initiatives/international-human-rights-law-institute/Pages/default.aspx.
