The College of New Jersey School (TCNJ) of Nursing and Health Sciences Department of Public Health invites applications for a full time, non-tenure track faculty member at the rank of Visiting Assistant Professor for the 2025 calendar year (Spring 2025 through Fall 2025). The Department of Public Health currently offers a Bachelor of Science major and minor in Public Health, a 4 +1 and traditional Masters of Public Health, and MBA/MPH dual degree with tracks in Epidemiology and Health Analytics, Global Health, and Health Communication, and a Graduate Certificate in Public Health.
The successful candidate will have an earned doctorate in Public Health or related field, a Master’s degree in public health, and teaching experience. Interests and experience in Emergency Management, Mental Health, Violence and Injury as well as Statistics and Methods are preferred. Experience as an instructor of record is also preferred. Most classes are taught in person on campus, with the exception of some courses taught in the online and hybrid format. The candidate will be responsible for effective teaching, scholarship, and professional development. The typical teaching load is four courses per semester. Teaching responsibilities will comprise undergraduate and graduate courses.
Undergraduate and graduate courses that Candidates may teach include Health Education, Epidemiology, Health Policy, Research Methods, Biostatistics, Capstone Internship and Paper, and other courses. CHES/MCHES certification is preferred but not required. Some experience with data analysis packages like SPSS, and R and SAS is also preferred.
Qualifications:
Applicants must have or demonstrate:
- A minimum of Master’s Degree in Public Health (MPH) at the time of the appointment.
- A minimum of 3-years’ experience teaching public health courses at the collegiate level, including integrating public health practice learning experiences in the classroom.
- Strong communication skills in writing, speaking, and presenting with a teaching/learning philosophy that reflects a diversity of thought and experience.
- Cultural competency and the ability to foster inclusive learning environments and mutual respect for students and colleagues.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Doctorate or similar terminal degree in a public health related field
- Experience with college/university personnel, policies and procedures.
- Experience with current best pedagogical practices in teaching adult learners.
- Experience with best pedagogical and technological practices for online teaching.
- Demonstrate experience with community based public health practice OR active research experience demonstrated through publications and/or grants.
- Interests and experience in Emergency Management, Mental Health, Violence and Injury as well as Statistics and Methods.
